Fine knit or chunky knit – what works when?

• Fine knit (e.g., 7gg): light, smooth, and elegant. Ideal as a layering piece, for the office, or under a blazer. Examples: V-neck sweater made from 100% merino wool, fine knit cardigan made from merino & cashmere.
• Chunky knit: voluminous, warm, and casual. Perfect for cold days – with an oversized fit, dropped shoulders, or a turtleneck. Examples: Chunky knit highlight sweater with puff sleeves, chunky knit cardigan.

Materials

• Merino wool (extra-fine, GOTS, organic): temperature-regulating, breathable, non-scratchy – can be worn directly on the skin.
• Cashmere & Merino-cashmere blends: particularly soft feel, elegant look, lightweight.
• Pure new wool: robust, dimensionally stable, and durable.

All yarns are mulesing-free, tested for harmful substances (REACH), and free from synthetic additives.

Properties of wool knits

Wool is naturally odor-neutral, dirt-repellent, and water-resistant. It warms in winter without overheating in spring and autumn, and reliably wicks moisture away – providing a comfortable feel both indoors and outdoors.

Care & Durability

Wool knits rarely need washing. Airing them out in the fresh air reliably refreshes most items. If necessary, hand wash or use a wool wash cycle at a maximum of 30 °C, then dry flat. Halfen is a fourth-generation family business – the pieces are manufactured in their own knitting mill in Hungenroth.
