Baby blankets made from natural wool – cuddly warm and breathable

A good baby blanket is more than just a piece of fabric: it accompanies your baby from day one – for sleeping, cuddling, walks, and carrying. At HALFEN, you'll find baby blankets made from pure natural wool that do exactly what parents and babies need: they provide reliable warmth, regulate temperature, and feel wonderfully soft on delicate baby skin. From fluffy cashmere to robust boiled wool – each blanket is crafted with care to last a long time.

Which baby blanket is suitable for which occasion?

For quiet hours at home or as a gift for a newborn, our cashmere baby blanket is the finest choice – feather-light, elegant, and exceptionally soft. The woolen spun yarn baby blanket brings structured knit and creamy warmth to the crib or sofa. More robust and versatile is the boiled wool baby blanket: it keeps warm even on the go, is water-repellent, and perfect for the stroller. For those who prefer even more practicality, there's the boiled wool footmuff for infant car seats or the lined footmuff made of boiled wool and organic cotton – both reliably protect your baby from cold and wind.

Why wool is particularly suitable for baby blankets

Wool is a true miracle of nature. It warms without overheating, wicks moisture away, and neutralizes odors all on its own. Especially for babies, whose temperature regulation is not yet fully developed, this creates a comfortable climate – whether during a nap or a walk on a cool autumn day. Cashmere impresses with its fineness and lightness, Merino wool with its softness and breathable properties, and boiled wool with its insulating, water-repellent effect.

From our own knitting mill – family tradition since 1928

Our baby blankets are manufactured in the in-house HALFEN knitting mill in Hungenroth. Since 1928, now in its fourth generation, we stand for honest craftsmanship and high-quality natural materials. We carefully select our wool and process it so that every blanket becomes a companion for many years – happily passed down through siblings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which baby blanket is best suited for newborns?

For newborns, we especially recommend soft materials such as our cashmere baby blanket or the brushed yarn baby blanket. Both are pleasantly lightweight, breathable, and temperature-regulating. For outings, the boiled wool footmuff for infant car seats is ideal, keeping your baby reliably warm while fitting comfortably into the car seat.

Aren’t wool blankets too warm for babies?

No, quite the opposite: wool naturally regulates temperature. It keeps babies warm when it is cold and releases excess heat and moisture when it becomes too warm. This makes wool especially suitable for babies, whose own temperature regulation is not yet fully developed – both in winter and during transitional seasons.

How do I properly care for a wool baby blanket?

Wool is largely self-cleaning. For light dirt, simply airing out the blanket is usually enough. For stronger stains, we recommend gentle hand washing with wool detergent in lukewarm water or using your washing machine’s wool cycle. Afterwards, dry flat – never tumble dry or place in direct sunlight.

What is the difference between cashmere, merino wool, and boiled wool?

Cashmere is the finest and lightest wool – ideal for especially delicate blankets used at home. Merino wool is soft, breathable, and very skin-friendly, making it perfect for everyday use and baby beds. Boiled wool is felted, making it denser and more durable: it is water-resistant and insulating, which makes it the right choice for walks, strollers, and infant car seats.

Is a baby blanket suitable as a newborn gift?

Yes, a high-quality baby blanket is one of the most beautiful gifts for a newborn. It is practical from the very first day, accompanies the child for years, and is often even passed down to siblings. Our cashmere baby blanket and brushed yarn baby blanket are especially popular – you can also explore our newborn gift collection for more ideas.
