Children's Hats made of pure natural wool

Children's heads lose heat faster than adult heads – parents often only realize this when a cold has already set in. A well-fitting hat is therefore more than just an accessory in autumn and winter. We offer models made from merino wool, cashmere with yak wool, a cashmere-merino blend, and alpaca – each processed in such a way that the hat feels comfortable on sensitive children's skin.

Which wool for which child?

Merino wool is the all-rounder: temperature-regulating, light, and easy to care for. Our classic merino beanie fits snugly on the head and fits under any hood. If you want something warmer and finer, opt for the cashmere version – the yak blend makes it more robust without losing its soft feel. Alpaca is the warmest fiber in our range, making it the right choice for really cold days or children who spend a lot of time outdoors.

Headbands as an alternative

Not every child likes hats – older children, in particular, often find headbands more comfortable. Our cashmere headband warms the ears and forehead but leaves the hair free and doesn't flatten anything. Also practical for the transitional season when a hat is already too warm.

Sizes and fit

We carry sizes for approximately 1–11 years. The beanies have a classic snug fit, while the cable knit models have a bit more structure due to the knit pattern. If you are between two sizes, we recommend the smaller one – wool stretches slightly with wear.

Care: short and honest

Wool needs to be washed less often than most people think. Airing it out after wearing is often enough. If washing is necessary: wool cycle at 30 °C or hand wash with wool detergent, dry flat. Do not tumble dry, do not place on the heater – then the hat will last several seasons.

Frequently Asked Questions

From what age do the hats fit?

Our smallest size fits from around 1 year (some models from 6 months), and the largest up to about 11 years. You can find the exact sizing information on each product page.

Does wool itch on children's skin?

Not with our hats. Merino wool naturally has very fine fibers, as do cashmere and alpaca. What children often perceive as itchy are coarser wool qualities – which we do not use.

Which hat is the warmest?

Alpaca provides the strongest insulation and is the right choice for very cold days or for children who spend a lot of time outdoors. Cashmere also provides excellent warmth at a much lighter weight. Merino balances temperature and is ideal for transitional seasons or when the hat is worn under a hood.

How do I properly wash the hat?

Use a wool cycle at a maximum of 30°C or hand wash with a wool detergent. Then dry flat, do not tumble dry, and do not place on a heater – otherwise the wool may felt or shrink.

Headband or hat – which is better?

That depends on the child and the weather. Headbands are comfortable during transitional seasons and are often preferred by older children because they feel less restrictive. In frost or wind, a hat that also covers the top of the head is the better choice.

How long does a wool hat last?

With normal use and proper care, several seasons – often longer than the child fits the size. The hats are made to last and can easily be passed down to younger siblings.
