What is felt?

Felt is created through a natural process:

Feuchtigkeit

Die Wolle wird angefeuchtet.

Wärme

Durch Wärme öffnet sich die Faserstruktur.

Druck & Reibung

Die Fasern verhaken sich miteinander.

Verdichtung

Es entsteht ein dichter, formstabiler Walkstoff.

The Most Important Questions About Boiled Wool

What is fulled wool?

Boiled wool is a high-quality wool fabric created through a process called felting. This involves treating wool with moisture, heat, and movement until the fibers permanently interlock. The result is a dense, dimensionally stable, and pleasantly soft fabric with excellent natural properties.

Boiled wool is particularly popular due to its natural thermal insulation, breathability, and durability. At the same time, the fabric is temperature-regulating and slightly water-repellent – ideal for clothing and accessories in the colder seasons.

How is felt made?

To produce loden fabric, virgin wool or merino wool is first processed into a knitted or woolen fabric. Then, the actual felting process begins.

Through warm water, moisture, pressure, and friction, the fine wool fibers open up and interlock with each other. The fabric visibly condenses and acquires its typical robust, warm, and dimensionally stable structure.

This traditional manufacturing process makes loden fabrics particularly durable, wind-resistant, and pleasantly soft. At the same time, the natural breathability of the wool is preserved.

What are the advantages of boiled wool?

  • Warming and temperature-regulating
  • Breathable and comfortable to wear
  • Wind-resistant and slightly water-repellent
  • Robust and durable
  • Natural wool fabric
  • Ideal for jackets, coats, overalls, and children's clothing

Two Different Types of Walks

For different needs and applications, we offer two felted wool qualities.

Which felted wool fabric is right for you?

If you're looking for a particularly warm, durable outdoor fabric, robust felted wool is the perfect choice. For soft, flowing, comfortable clothing with a pleasant feel, we recommend fine felted wool.

Both variants are made from high-quality wool and combine natural functionality with a timelessly beautiful look.

Firm, robust felted wool - approx. 650 g/sqm

Our firm boiled wool with a weight of approx. 650 g/sqm is particularly dense, dimensionally stable, and hard-wearing. Its robust structure makes it ideal for clothing that needs to withstand a lot and provides optimal protection against wind and cold.

Perfectly suited for:

  • Outdoor clothing
  • Jackets & coats
  • Overalls
  • Children's clothing
  • Winter accessories

The heavy boiled wool fabric offers excellent thermal insulation and remains durable and stable even with frequent use. Robust boiled wool is particularly popular for high-quality outdoor clothing and weather-resistant favorite pieces.

Firm, robust felted wool - approx. 650 gsm

The fine felted wool, weighing approx. 400 g/m², feels softer, lighter, and more supple. It is comfortable against the skin while still offering the typical advantages of felted wool: warmth, breathability, and natural comfort.

Ideally suited for:

  • Innerwear
  • Knitted felt
  • Trousers
  • Sweaters
  • Baby and children's clothing
  • Cozy feel-good fashion

Due to its softer structure, fine felted fabric is particularly suitable for clothing with high wearing comfort and a flowing fit.

The Benefits of Boiled Wool

1. Naturally functional – noticeable every day.

Boiled wool impresses with its unique natural properties and is the perfect companion for autumn and winter. The high-quality natural wool material ensures a pleasant body climate, reliably protects against wind and cold, and remains breathable and comfortable to wear.

2. Temperature-regulating

Boiled wool keeps you pleasantly warm without overheating. The natural fibers optimally regulate temperature and ensure a balanced wearing experience in all weathers.

3. Wind-resistant

Thanks to its dense structure, boiled wool reliably protects against wind and cold. Ideal for outdoor clothing, jackets, overalls, and cozy winter fashion.

4. Breathable

Wool can absorb and release moisture without feeling damp. This creates a pleasant, dry body climate – perfect for children and adults.

5. Robust & durable

Boiled wool is particularly hard-wearing, dimensionally stable, and durable. Even with frequent wear, the fabric remains beautiful and resilient.

6. Dirt-resistant

The natural properties of wool mean that dirt adheres less and rolls off more easily. This makes boiled wool particularly easy to care for and suitable for everyday use.

7. Easy to care for

Thanks to the lanolin it contains, boiled wool has a natural self-cleaning ability. Often, simply airing it out is enough to make the fabric feel fresh again.
