At HALFEN, our family has been crafting high-quality women's fashion from natural materials since 1928, now in its fourth generation – in our own knitwear factory in Hungenroth, fair and regional, with a love for craftsmanship. Our women's knitwear is made from pure cashmere, fine merino wool, and noble alpaca: timeless cuts, carefully crafted, and designed for lasting appeal.
Why Knitwear Made from Natural Yarn?
Knitted clothing made from wool is naturally temperature-regulating. It warms in winter without overheating in spring and autumn. The fine mesh structure wicks moisture away, neutralizes odors, and ensures a comfortable wearing experience even on long days. Unlike synthetic fibers, wool does not build up static electricity and, thanks to its fine fiber structure, is particularly skin-friendly – even for sensitive skin.

Materials – Carefully Selected
We rely exclusively on high-quality natural fibers: cashmere for noble warmth with low weight and incomparable softness, merino wool from controlled organic animal husbandry (kbT) for fineness and breathability, and alpaca for special thermal performance – naturally lanolin-free and therefore also suitable for sensitive skin. You won't find synthetic blends with us.
Care for Knitwear – How to Keep Your Favorite Sweater Beautiful for a Long Time
Wool knitwear rarely needs to be washed. Airing outdoors reliably refreshes knit items. If necessary, wash by hand or on a wool wash cycle at a maximum of 30 degrees with a mild wool detergent. Never tumble dry – always dry flat so that the knit retains its shape. Small pilling knots can be gently removed with a wool comb.

What is the difference between cashmere and merino wool in women's knitwear?
Cashmere comes from the cashmere goat and is exceptionally fine, soft, and lightweight – ideal for luxurious sweaters, cardigans, and headbands. Merino wool is more durable, breathable, and highly temperature-regulating, making it perfect for versatile everyday knitwear. Both natural fibers are skin-friendly and are used in different styles within our women's knitwear collection.
How do I properly care for my women's knitwear?
Thanks to its natural properties, wool knitwear is largely self-cleaning. Simply air out your cashmere sweater or cardigan in fresh air – this is sufficient in most cases. If needed, wash by hand or use a wool cycle at a maximum of 30°C with a wool detergent, then lay flat to dry. Never use a dryer to maintain the shape.
Does wool and cashmere irritate the skin?
No. Our women's knitwear is made from particularly fine natural yarns such as cashmere, merino wool, and alpaca. These fibers are much finer than traditional wool and feel pleasantly soft on the skin – suitable even for sensitive skin and allergy sufferers. Direct skin contact is completely safe.
How can I prevent my knit sweater from shrinking or losing its shape?
Wool shrinks when it is washed too hot or subjected to mechanical stress. Always wash on a wool cycle or by hand at a maximum of 30°C, avoid spinning, and dry the garment flat on a towel. This helps cashmere cardigans, merino sweaters, and knit culottes retain their shape for many years.
