Steamery x Halfen – Care that makes knits and wool last longer

Wool, cashmere, and boiled wool improve with proper care. In this collection, you'll find Steamery care products as well as our Kerzon wool detergent – carefully selected to ensure your Halfen pieces retain their shape, softness, and color for many seasons.

Which care product for which purpose?

  • Pilo 2 Fabric Shaver: The lint shaver gently removes pilling from sweaters, cardigans, and knitwear. Light pilling is natural, especially with cashmere and merino wool – with the Pilo, you'll achieve an even knit pattern again in just a few minutes.
  • Lint Brush: The classic double-sided brush – one side picks up lint and pet hair, the other allows for easy removal. The uncomplicated everyday helper for coats, cardigans, and scarves.
  • Pocket Brush: The compact version for on the go – fits in your handbag or travel bag and removes lint and dust right before your appointment.
  • Cirrus 3 Iron Steamer: This handy garment steamer replaces the iron for most knitted and woolen textiles. As is well known, wool should not be ironed – but steam reliably removes creases and wrinkles without stressing the fiber structure.
  • Fabric Spray (rose & musk): Freshens clothes between washes with a delicate fragrance. Practical for wool, which should rarely be washed anyway – a few sprays often replace a wash cycle.
  • Kerzon Wool Detergent: Mild, plant-based wool detergent – specially formulated for hand washing and the wool wash cycle. Preserves the natural properties of the fiber and protects its shape.

Why care is crucial

Wool is naturally odor and dirt resistant – most knitwear needs to be washed much less frequently than synthetic clothing. Air out, brush off, and occasionally de-fuzz are sufficient for most care. Hand washing or a wool wash cycle only comes into play with heavier soiling. Steamery tools make this routine simple – and noticeably extend the lifespan of your knitwear.

Care routine in three steps

  • Air out: Hang knitwear out in the fresh air for a day after wearing – this is usually enough to make it ready for use again.
  • Refresh & de-fuzz: If necessary, clean the surface with a Pocket Brush or Lint Brush, remove pilling with the Pilo 2.
  • Wash when necessary: Hand wash or wool wash cycle at a maximum of 30 °C with Kerzon wool detergent, then dry flat.

Häufige Fragen

How often do I really need to wash a merino wool sweater?

Much less often than synthetic clothing. Wool is naturally odor- and dirt-resistant – usually airing it out in fresh air is enough. If there are visible stains or persistent odors, hand washing or a wool cycle at a maximum of 30°C is recommended. For many sweaters, this means only 2–3 washes per season.

What helps against pilling on knitwear?

Light pilling is completely natural with pure wool, especially cashmere, and is not a sign of poor quality. With a fabric shaver such as the Pilo 2, it can be gently removed within minutes – leaving the knitwear looking even and almost new again. Important: do not press too hard to protect the knit structure.

Can I iron wool or should I use a steamer?

Wool should not be ironed directly – heat and pressure can damage the fibers and knit structure. A garment steamer such as the Cirrus 3 is the gentler alternative: the steam relaxes the fibers and removes wrinkles without stressing the wool. This is ideal for refreshing cardigans, coats, and fine knitwear.

Which detergent should I use for my Halfen pieces?

We recommend Kerzon wool detergent or a similar mild plant-based wool detergent. Standard detergents often contain enzymes that can damage wool fibers. Wool detergents are specially formulated for the low pH level and sensitivity of natural fibers.

Is a fabric spray worth it or is it just cosmetic?

A fabric spray is a practical in-between solution: it does not replace washing, but it refreshes the smell and feel of garments between washes. Especially for wool pieces that should only be washed rarely, it is a useful addition and helps extend the time the knitwear stays ready to wear.
