Kids' accessories made from merino wool – naturally warm, featherlight soft
Cold ears, freezing necks, clammy hands – if you have children, you know the drill. In our collection, you'll find accessories that do more than just provide warmth: they are made from high-quality merino wool, don't itch, regulate body temperature, and remain so lightweight that they won't interfere even with the wildest play.
Why merino wool is the best choice for children's skin
Merino wool is a special natural fiber. Its fibers are significantly finer than those of conventional virgin wool – and that's precisely what makes it so comfortable on delicate children's skin. It warms reliably without overheating, wicks moisture away, and is naturally odor-resistant. Children, in particular, who quickly sweat and then cool down between activity and rest, benefit from this natural climate regulation.
Hats, scarves, headbands – what you'll find in this collection
Our children's accessories are as diverse as the little wearers themselves. Classic knitted hats for the cold season, light headbands for transitional days, soft loop scarves that don't slip, and cozy gloves for slushy days. All pieces come in subtle natural tones and child-friendly colors and can be easily combined with our other children's clothing.
Four generations of knitting tradition
Halfen has been a family business with a true history of craftsmanship since 1928. What started as a small knitting mill is now a brand that values durability, fair production, and natural materials. Each of our children's accessories is made with the aim of outlasting several siblings – because good wool doesn't break down after one season.
Easy to care for and suitable for everyday use
Contrary to popular belief: merino wool doesn't need to be washed constantly. Airing it out is often enough because the fiber hardly absorbs odors. If washing is necessary, it can be done on a wool cycle at a low temperature. This preserves the shape, color, and softness for a long time – a real advantage in family life.
Finding the right size
For hats and headbands, the fit is crucial. In each product description, you will find a detailed size chart with head circumference in centimeters. If in doubt, we recommend the smaller size – merino wool stretches slightly when worn and adapts to the head shape.
Häufige Fragen
From what age are the children's accessories suitable?
Our children's accessories are designed for kids from around 1 year of age. You can find the exact size information for each product in the respective product description. For younger children, we recommend our baby collection, which is specially tailored to sensitive baby skin.
Does merino wool itch on my child’s skin?
No. We exclusively use particularly fine merino wool with a fiber diameter of less than 19 microns. This fineness makes the wool soft enough to be worn directly on the skin – even for sensitive children. If your child still reacts, you can easily return the item within 14 days.
How do I properly wash the accessories?
Merino wool is easier to care for than often assumed. Frequent airing is usually sufficient, as the fiber hardly absorbs odors. If washing is necessary, use a wool cycle at a maximum of 30°C with wool detergent, avoid spinning, and dry flat. This helps maintain the shape and keeps the wool soft.
Are the products sustainably produced?
Sustainability is a key concern for us as a fourth-generation family business. We use merino wool from controlled animal husbandry (mulesing-free) and produce in Europe under fair working conditions. You can find more details about our suppliers and production sites on our sustainability page.
What size should I choose for hats?
It’s best to measure your child’s head circumference with a soft measuring tape, about two fingers above the eyebrows. Compare the measurement with our size chart in the product description. If your child is between two sizes, we recommend choosing the smaller one – merino wool stretches slightly with wear and adapts to the shape.
